So last week is my 3rd consecutive week playing here in KC. Really enjoying the workout, watching others play and learning from players that are better than me. Time really goes by fast when I am playing so either I am enjoying the sport or not paying much attention to the clock.
I've been playing at Hill Top here in KC. It's a beautiful facility with a number of multi-use courts. Meaning they are marked for basket ball in both directions and pickleball. This makes for some very confusing lines management even though they are distinct colors. Indoor play is not my favorite, even only after playing outside 3 times. Everything plays a little different, the balls move differently and respond differently.
On my 3rd outing I had every intention of playing with the Onix Z5 Graphite but didn't get a chance. I wanted to see if playing with the same paddle two weeks in a row would help my game. Getting used to equipment for pickeball is no different than breaking in a new set of irons. Working with the same equipment over and over again of course allows one to refine their play.
I really like how the Onix Voyager Pro plays so much so that is the paddle I am sticking with during my initial stages of the sport. I've figured out how the paddle responds much more so than when I initially started using it. I've also learned how to maximize things like spin and ball placement with a little more consistency. This paddle delivers on all of my check boxes.
My only issue to date is wrist fatigue. My right wrist is a little stiff/sore. Those hard to reach back hand shots forcing my wrist to fully extend towards my forearm is what is causing the pain. I don't think a lighter paddle is going to make a difference here but something worth considering. I am also experiencing a little tendinitis but suspect that is due to age more than game, arm or equipment fatigue.
I will continue to write follow ups as I play each week and learn a little more about the technique of the game. I thought I would be further along now with all of the RB i played but this sport is proving to require much more practice than I currently have time for.
More to come...
