The Onix Voyager Pro is the second paddle in my line up of Onix paddles. This paddle is more inline with what I will consider traditional paddles unlike the Outbreak which is sort of a mutant all on it's own. See blog for review and impressions on Outbreak
The Voyager also has a honeycomb core made of polypropelene and a graphite face. It's a smooth face and my tap test for noise produces a distinct hollow sound almost like tapping an on empty 16 oz plastic soda bottle. I already know this paddle is going to generate more noise on the court. The Outbreak has a very deadening sounds and it absorbs most of what is heard during ball contact.
The handle is traditional round and feels "normal" in the hand unlike the Outbreak which is octagonal and takes a little getting used to. It's a medium weight paddle (7.8 to 8.2 oz) which is specifically the weight class I wanted to be in based on all of my research which says if you don't know, light, medium, heavy to go in the middle. For me I am trying to minimize elbow fatigue and produce consistent shots without over or under swinging. My previous review of the Outbreak left me with a tender elbow, that was due to just play and the tenderness was gone the next day. That tells me for now that I am in the right weight class.
Had I not been or the paddle was to heavy or too light I would expect longer term elbow fatigue. For now I am staying with this weight class until I get a chance to review another weight class and determine how that makes my elbow feel.
The voyager has a durable edge guard and as with all of the Onix paddles I have feels well made, sturdy and great handle wrap.
I'd like to see a ribbed wrap found on the Z5 handle as an option or perhaps a way to special order wrap types directly from the manufacturer. I don't know how long it takes to where a wrap out. Many factors to consider but considering the level of effort required to play PB in general I presume it would be quite a while. That being said having the grip you want out of the box would be important unless you are into replacing grips right away.
